ATW were involved with almost 200 events in 2023 and operated open swimming swim sessions across 2 venues over the spring. There has been a lot of challenges in the events industry, resulting from the cost of living increases, and ATW decided that forming partnerships was going to be the key to keep us moving in the direction we want to be heading in. In 2023 ATW became a key partner in organising events for the British Triathlon Super Series, including the selection race for both the World and European Champs for the GB elite team. we organised our first duathlon event for BUCS, organised the legendary Chiltern 100 sportive and also delivered the historic Livingstone Relays and Masters Road Running Relays at Mallory. On top of this we organised 8 British Triathlon Major events including British Championships plus World and European qualifiers. Our chip timing department took on a huge task to provide our timing and live tracking services for the Brighton Marathon, which lead to us making up almost 20,000 registration packs in a week! I am so proud that the service levels we provide at ATW are so well respected and recognised in the industry. The team we have at ATW is extraordinary, they never shy away from a challenge and put everything delivering exceptional race experiences for everyone. The ATW team are a joy to work alongside and I’m very lucky to have found a great bunch of people who all share the same passion as me.
As we move into 2024, we are excited about 4 brand new events we have launched, each with their own exciting formats. We are continuing to grow our partnerships and we’ll be organising a new 10K event and fun run in Cambridge to support the British Heart Foundation. We are organising a mixed relay triathlon and social event at Box End, a new running festival at Thoresby and finally an Endurance Weekend in the Chilterns. The feedback since we announced these events has been fantastic and they are all looking to be very popular.
My own personal highlight in 2023 was the Odyssey Long Distance Triathlon which ATW organised in July. It was an amazing achievement by the team to create something so memorable and in doing so the event has become the highest rated long distance event on Racecheck, winning a Gold Award in the process. I’m very excited to see what can happen with this event in the future.
I want and need to say a huge thanks to everyone that supports ATW events to ensure we deliver a friendly, safe and enjoyable event experience every single time. Over 1000 marshals and kayakers have helped at the events and open water swim sessions in 2023 and it’s a testament to them that one of our most repeated feedbacks at ATW events is the line “Your marshals were fantastic!”. All of the 3rd party suppliers we use at ATW events are immensely reliable and professional and I’d like to extend the thanks to our race officials, medics, toilet suppliers, photographers and commentators. We simply couldn’t organise ATW events without marshals and suppliers and it’s so comforting knowing that we have reliable and professional teams in place.
My final thank you, as always, is to everyone who has swam, ran, biked or walked with us in 2023. Your continued support of ATW and the fact you choose our events to attend is something I will never take for granted. I love chatting to all of you at events and finding out what is inspiring you to make the start line. Watching the joys, emotions and perseverance at events is something that is so inspiring to be a part of. ATW are looking forward to supporting you all again in 2024 and we can’t wait to see you at an event soon.
